Mote Squash Club Newsletter – March 2018

Dear Members,

As we head into Spring, it seems the snow has not brought a complete halt to squash and racketball activities and it’s pleasing to see the upgraded court heating systems proving their worth!

Coaching and Fitness Classes:

Steve Franks has started his new role as Club Coach and is available for Individual and Group Coaching (Please contact Steve on 07855288471 or elsteveo969@hotmail.co.uk).

Steve will also be organising fitness classes specifically tailored towards squash and will be releasing further details in due course.

Events:

A big thank-you must go out to all those who attended the Race Night and thanks to Russell for organising. The event proved a resounding success with £350.00 being raised for the Weald of Kent Hospice. Russell and Harry Mason were on hand to deliver the cheque in person - photo attached!

Upcoming Events:

24th – 25th March 2018 – Inter-County Over 35s Event – We’d love to see Members down for a drink and to watch some very high-quality action as Kent, Ulster, Essex and Nottingham do battle in an exciting two-day tournament.

7th April 2018 - We are delighted to announce we will be hosting an Exhibition Match between Josh Masters and Richie Fallows. Many of you will know Josh as he is born and bred in Maidstone and our finalist last year in the Kent Open. Richie is also local and entered the Kent Open last year. The aim is for Josh and Richie to go on court or provide coaching for members from about 3pm before playing an exhibition match at 5pm, marked by Lloyd Chinsen. Josh and Richie are ranked 53 and 59 in the world and so this promises to be an exciting evening. It would be great to encourage as many juniors as possible to play and then watch - both Jason and Claire Goodayle would be happy to provide any more details parents may require. We will also be holding a raffle on the evening and Russ will provide some light food.

As both players will require match fees, funds will need to be raised accordingly. We are suggesting adults who watch the match pay £6 each and another £6 for coaching. Juniors are free to watch and £3 for coaching. Some members have also volunteered to contribute money to the match fee fund and this is much appreciated. If any member would like to pledge some money it too would be very much appreciated. Please mention your pledge to any Committee Member.

4th May 2018 - Navin is organising a barn door challenge, from 6pm. We hope both the pre- club night and club night regulars can join in. All proceeds will go towards our tournaments this year.

Looking further ahead we plan to hold a graded tournament at the club Saturday 30th June. Like the Lashing open this will be an all-day graded event. Unlike the Lashings Open we aim to attract PSA professionals to the A grade competition and start this mid-afternoon. Hopefully this will mean an opportunity for some quality playing time in the day and some great squash viewing later.

Sponsorship:

We’d like to take this opportunity to thank all of our Sponsors for their continued support to the Mote Squash Club. We hope you like the refurbished look of the club. This has allowed us to greatly increase the number of events and therefore visitors who see the advertising.

Our new Chairman, Steve Hazzard, will contact all of our sponsors very shortly to chat about our plans. Please feel free to contact him on 0797516503 in the meantime.

Club Championships:

We are excited to confirm that The Mote Squash and Racketball Club Championships are to commence in March 2018. Entries can be submitted on the main Noticeboard opposite the bar or via email directly to Jason Goodayle (jasongoodayle@hotmail.co.uk).

The closing date for entries is Monday 19th March 2018 – we look forward to seeing as many participants as possible!

Best Wishes

The Mote Squash Club Committee
