Chairman’s Newsletter - May 2018
Dear Members,
Club Championships
The Club Championships Finals Day is confirmed for Saturday 2nd June 2018. Please put the date in your diaries. Play will start at 4pm and will be continuous until around 7pm. We will be running a BBQ and Russ has booked a band from 7:30pm.
This our biggest event of the year so please try to come along to the squash and the evening!
Tournaments and Coaching
Thanks to Navin for organising another successful Barn Door Challenge on the 4th May and to Stewart and Martin for resuming rivalry as opposing captains. Congratulations to Martin’s team for the win.
Please be aware all of the courts will be used for Junior County training on 29th May from 10.30am until 2.30pm.
The Club Junior Championships will be held 16th June. Please note that all courts will be in use between 9am and 5 pm. The bar and kitchen will be open so pop in for a drink and watch the stars of the future.
A Level One Coaching Course is being run on 17th June on two courts between 9am and 5pm. Members interested in participating and attaining this qualification should contact Club Coach Steve Franks, who will be running the day.
We will be hosting a Mote Junior Open 21st and/or 22nd July, managed by Ben Ford. Please check beforehand on the availability of courts on those days if you are looking to play.
We are running a PSA tournament on the evening of 10th and the day of 11th August.
We shall also be running a Graded tournament on the 11th August, again managed by Ben Ford. There will be B, C and D grades so please come along and enjoy some world class squash and/or get your entries in to the Graded event.
Following the success of the CAF Ceramics Exhibition match, we would be delighted to hear from any sponsors who would like the tournament to be under their name: please contact any Committee Member.
We hope to run a doubles tournament 29th September and will provide more details nearer the time.
Finally, we have the opportunity to run a marking course should there be sufficient interest. Anybody who is keen should contact a Committee Member.
Maintenance
Many of you will have seen the temporary repairs to the door of Court 3. Thank you to Soli for the work that has allowed us to carry on using it. Martin will be arranging for a permanent solution in due course.
Similarly, the door lock on Court 2 will be fixed soon as well as the fire door next to Court 1.
The court floors have some marks on them which we think will come out with sanding. Fortunately, the floors will be due for sanding later this year, so we will be able to rectify moving the marks simultaneously. In the meantime, please feel free to point out the error of using marking soles to any one you happen to notice creating more marks.
The new thermostats have been a marked improvement but can be expensive to run if the temperatures are constantly set high. Please feel free to set the temperature at whatever level is comfortable for you but (after playing and if nobody follows you on court) please try to remember to hit the green button on each device on the court’s wall. This will reset the temperature at 18 degrees.
To complete the bar refurbishment Russ has sourced some new bar stools. These will be in place soon and hopefully before the Championships Finals Day.
General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR)
I’m sure you will all have been receiving communications from all sorts of businesses wanting you to reaffirm your willingness to remain on mailing lists. The Mote Squash Club is also subject to new GDPR rules but fortunately we don't have much to do.
Mycourts has helpfully provided a briefing note and this is attached for your information. The only additional action we need to take in relation to “durable media” is to destroy the old members book that is behind the bar.
We will also include a hard copy on the Club Noticeboard.
Sponsorships
The annual sponsorship renewal will soon be upon us and we will be making a couple of changes (such as removing the Shepherd Neame livery).
Sponsorship opportunities are available from as little as £5 per week on Court 3 or from £10 per week on Court 1. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you are interested.
Best Wishes
Steve Hazzard
