Morning All

Some updates and dates for your diary to let you know about

The rounders and cricket sign up sheets are now hanging in the bar for the 8th September fun day (weather permitting). Choose rounders in the morning, cricket in the afternoon or both. Russ and Joe will be manning the BBQ at lunchtime. Even if not playing in either please come along with your families to enjoy the day. This year we have the pitch outside the club so very convenient for the bar.

The next quiz night is 12/10 and once again Steve Wentzell is our quizmaster. These are always popular so please hold the date in your diary.

The membership year ends 30/9 and so it's time for the AGM. We will confirm the date shortly. As usual beer will be half price from the meeting start time.

We are trying a couple of new beers. After an early burst of enthusiasm for Hobgoblin we have seen a reduction in sales more recently so are trying out Shipyard Ale. Porreti Lager will be replacing Estrella. Do let the committee know if you are enjoying the changes. San Miguel remains popular so will continue.

This year's PSA tournament included a graded competition on the Saturday and the 2 events combined brought in more visitors to the club than last year. We were helped by the fine weather, particularly on the Friday when a number of us enjoyed the balmy conditions on the balcony and some rather good wine was taken. The A grade tournament was won by Ryan Avison, whom many of you will know from his time at the Mote. Well done Ryan. Local Kent player Jack Mitterer won the PSA final on Sunday afternoon, capping off a high quality tournament that included a number of overseas players in a big field.

Special thanks go to our sponsors, without whom the event would not have been possible. Hats off to our long term sponsors Jason Goodayle (S&G process Engineering) and Clive Franklin (CAF Ceramics). This year we welcomed Steve Wentzell (Capital Cleaning) and Steve Lowe (Elsatex) for the first time and the boost to the funds allowed us to offer a prize in the A grade competition. Please give them all a nod of appreciation next time you see them.

Speaking of nods to members, Marc Steeden and Luke Penna (with his son Noah) were representing club and country in last month's international Racketlon competition in Rotterdam. I'm sure they would be happy to tell you about it when you see them.

There is some fitness training equipment in the cupboard behind court 1 that is no longer used, following the cessation of Phil and Cynthia's Sunday morning slot. We would like to offer members the opportunity to acquire individual pieces in return for a donation to club funds. Have a look if you are interested and let me know what you want. I can meet you at the club to make the transaction.

Some time ago I invited members to let me have their views on making court 4 a one hour court, at an increased cost of £9. I got zero response through the club website but have since spoken to a couple of members who did reply. Clearly something went awry. I'd like to try again, this time with my own e mail address (above). Can you let me have a yes or no response by 31/8 please. As with the AGM, only those participating will be involved in the decision.

All the Best

Steve
